From classroom to squadron: Second graders celebrate 56th Rescue Squadron
AVIANO, Italy – Second-grade students in the classes of Ms. Haskins, Ms. Lopez, Mr. Morvay and Ms. Boone at Aviano Elementary School collaborated with Air Force members from the 56th Rescue Squadron to create and deliver appreciation cards.
As part of this meaningful engagement, both teachers and students explored the squadron’s history and mission, gaining a deeper understanding of its vital role.
Students were especially enthusiastic about learning the origin of the unit’s “Green Giant” mascot, which traces back to the Vietnam War, strengthening their connection to the squadron’s legacy and service.
