Aviano Elementary students bring history to life through AAPS Wax Museum

At Aviano Elementary School, fourth and fifth grade Advanced Academic Programs (AAPS) students recently stepped into the past — and onto the stage — through an engaging Wax Museum project. The project combined research, writing, creativity, and public speaking into one memorable learning experience.

Students began by selecting an important historical or notable figure to study. Through in-depth research, they explored the life, achievements, and impact of their chosen individual. Each student then crafted a well-developed, multi-paragraph essay to showcase their understanding and analytical thinking.

The learning experience extended beyond writing. Students designed and created detailed backdrops that reflected their historical figures’ lives and accomplishments. They also wrote and memorized speeches, preparing to “come to life” as their characters for an authentic museum experience.

Dressed in costume, students transformed into their chosen figures and presented their work to fellow students in grades 3-5, as well as teachers and families. The event highlighted not only academic skills but also creativity, communication, and confidence.

Kari P., a 4th grade AAPS student, reflected on the experience, sharing that it “taught me to be more confident and I learned more about my important person.”

Third-grade teacher Carmen Colon praised the students’ efforts, stating, “The Wax Museum was a wonderful showcase of their hard work, research, and presentation skills. It was inspiring to see students bring historical figures and notable individuals to life with such confidence and creativity.”

The AAPS Wax Museum served as a powerful example of student-centered learning, where research and writing came alive through performance—leaving a lasting impression on both participants and audiences alike.
