Aviano Elementary Families Celebrate Reading Together During Reading Week
Aviano Elementary School recently celebrated Reading Celebration Week with a variety of activities designed to inspire a love of reading and strengthen connections between students, families, and the school community.
One of the highlights of the week was Family Library Time, which took place for one hour after the school day on Monday, March 2. Families were invited into the school library to participate in a fun and interactive library scavenger hunt, encouraging parents and children to explore the library together while discovering new books and favorite reading spots.
After completing the scavenger hunt, families had the opportunity to check out as many books as they wished to take home and enjoy together. The event welcomed 53 participants, creating a lively atmosphere filled with curiosity, excitement, and shared reading experiences.
Parents expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage in their child’s reading journey. One parent shared, “My son wanted to come so badly, I couldn’t say no.” Another parent added, “This is a wonderful opportunity to get to see the school library. This is my daughter’s favorite place in the school.”
School librarian Ms. Herk emphasized the importance of celebrating reading and making it a joyful experience for students.
“Reading Celebration Week is a great time to remind our students that they get to read,” Ms. Herk said. “Reading is exciting and fun. When I see children excited to bring their parents to the library or enjoying reading to a peer or sibling, it makes me feel like I have done my job.”
Throughout the week, students also participated in themed dress-up days, reading activities, and classroom literacy events that reinforced the message that reading is both meaningful and enjoyable.
Reading Celebration Week continues to be a valued tradition at Aviano Elementary, fostering a strong culture of literacy and bringing families together to celebrate the power of books.
